Mormonism is the name which we give to our belief system- that is, the doctrines which we adhere to, and the lifestyle which follows. We believe it is a restoration of the fulness of the everlasting gospel, a modern continuation of the one true religion which God established with the first men to walk the Earth.

Throughout history, God has revealed truth and given direction through inspired men called prophets. We know from the scriptural record that prophets often caused a great deal of controversy, because oftentimes their message contradicted that which was commonly accepted as truth or virtue. Even Jesus Christ, the Son of God himself, received fierce opposition. As it is written, He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. (John 3:18-20) Jesus warned that those who followed him would also receive similar treatment; Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. (John 15:20)

The early Mormons were subjected to harsh treatment, and at various times even violent persecution. In 1844, the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were slain for their testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The majority of Mormons followed a man named Brigham Young westward to what is today called Utah, hoping to escape the persecutions of the East. Brigham Young introduced various reforms which were not consistent with existing scripture or Joseph Smith’s teachings; nevertheless, the Mormons were largely successful in establishing a functioning society. However, that peace did not last for long. As the United States also expanded westward, they desired to bring the Mormons into subjection. We believe that, as a result of the loss of the Prophet, and also as a response to prolonged social and political pressure, many important elements of our religion have been altered, distorted, deemphasized, or altogether abandoned. We believe that much of this is accidental, the inability of a scattered and tormented people to properly preserve their religion in its proper form; and also that much of it is deliberate, as men with their own motives and priorities attempt to replace true Mormonism with an altered version thereof.

The largest institution practicing a form of Mormonism today is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which grew from those who followed Brigham Young. There are other groups who have tried to advocate for a purer form of the religion; but often in this effort these groups have been either overcautious, overzealous, or both. Some have jettisoned core doctrines; others have adopted strange new ones. We respect the devotion and the faithful efforts of those who have come before us, both within the Mormon sphere and in other denominations of Christianity, while still maintaining confidence in our principles and doctrine. It is our belief that the various forms of Mormonism practiced by the LDS Church and these other groups represent, to varying degrees, a significant deviation from the fulness of the gospel. Because of our beliefs, we are unable to sustain the current program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; having received insight and guidance from the Lord, we have opted to organize this institution to promote faith, family, and liberty according to true principles as revealed by God throughout the ages.

The Revival Branch United Order is a small religious fellowship, striving to support one another as we live and teach the gospel. Our goal is to preserve our religion according to the original teachings and practices of the Prophet, and to introduce a pure and authentic Mormonism to an audience which may have never before had the opportunity to learn of the work of the Restoration, and the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We invite all to turn away from darkness, and step forward into the light; that is, to come unto Christ, and be perfected in him.
